5.0 out of 5 stars Installed and works just fine., February 25, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windows 7 Professional SP1 32bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging) (Software)
I am not rating Windows 7 - Windows 7 is what it is. I am rating my experience with installing this System Builder OEM DVD.
I installed this on an older HP XP business machine (9 years old) that I had put a RAID-5 (3 drives redundant configuration) into and also has a video card upgrade (nothing really fancy). I was concerned that I could even install this at all. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor said it would work, but I was concerned about the Highpoint RAID Card working (when I originally installed the RAID with the XP OS, I had to temporarily use a 3.5 inch floppy disk - which has since died - to install drivers for the Highpoint RAID card).
Well, this install of Windows 7 Professional went without a hitch. Early on the install asked for RAID drivers. I had found them on Highpoint's website for Windows 7 and loaded them onto a USB thumb drive. I browsed to the USB drive and the Windows 7 Install picked up the drivers and went right on an installed the OS... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Forgot To Tell Me 1 Thing BUT ALL WORKED OUT OK EVENTUALLY, March 24, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windows 7 Professional SP1 32bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging) (Software)
The product description told me (1) I could only install it on one 1 machine. That was ok. I'm ok with the license dying when the system dies. (2) It has to be a clean build. That's ok too. My systems got XP on it now. Win 7 NEVER upgrades from anything but Vista.

So I was all set right? Not quite. This product comes in a sealed envelope (you open it you bought it). The outside says you need OEM builder tools to install it even once on 1 machine.

You go to the website to get the tools. You have to get a Microsoft.com account before you can even look at the description of these tools.

So I got a account. I logon. I still couldn't even look at the tools until "my business" joins the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN)!
Who knows what else I'd need to do before I could actually install this product ONCE.
(Guess amazon forgot to mention this requirement in the product description).

All of this to upgrade my poor little XP system to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Upgrade from Windows XP Successful !, March 15, 2014

This review is from: Windows 7 Professional SP1 32bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging) (Software)
I have been running XP on a Dell XPS since 2009. I really didn't want to upgrade, but due to the last update from Microsoft this month and the fact Support for XP was dropping on April 2014, I figured it was time for me to make the move.
I was a little upset when I found out that you could not Upgrade XP with Windows 7 directly. It requires some careful planning and re-installation of your Programs. Happy to say, I accomplished this in about 3 hours, the Upgrade to Windows 7 was Successful. I have a few updated Windows 7 Drivers I need to install, but I am basically done. Use the Windows Easy Transfer Program to a USB Drive, this is a must... Good Luck with your Install !

My Windows 7 Software after a week of flawless installation, asked for an Activation Key.
I did not have a Activation Key in the Package, or anywhere I could find.

I called Microsoft, and they built me a Activation Key based on the... Read more
